Independent Diving
The SSI Independent Diving program provides the skills and concepts required to safely and comfortably dive without needing a designated dive buddy.

You will learn about self-reliance, proper equipment maintenance, and the special considerations and rescue techniques that are necessary to dive independently. You will earn the SSI Independent Diving Specialty certification after completion.
The minimum age for this program is 18-years-old. An Open Water Diver certification is required. Academic learning session is included as well. An pool/confined water session is part of this program, along with 3 open water dives. The maximum training depth is 30 meters/100 feet and the suggested duration is 6-10 hours.
Have completed the following Specialty Courses
Navigation, Night/Limited Visibility Diving and Deep Diving
Be certified in Diver Stress and Rescue or equivalent
Logged no less than 75 open water dives totaling 50 hours or more.
Pool and Open Water dives Minimum of 1 pool/confined water dive were all self rescue “pool only” skills have to be sucessfull completed.
Three Open Water dives including complete independent dive planing and Total Dive System set up for independent diving. NOTE: If necessary conduct more pool/confined water sessions.
